Bretten with the Melanchton House and Melanchton Museum can be explored in a walking tour beginning at the market place.
The walk leads us to the Melanchton House Schweizerhof, the Gerberhaus, the historical market place, the Hundlesbrunnen and Marktbrunnen fountains with a statue of the Prince-Elector Friederich II. Another fountain with a sculpture can be seen at the former city gate "Am Gottesacker". It was donated by the Heidelberg family of entrepreneurs Albert and Anneliese Konanz in 1992.
Famous guests in today's hotel and restaurant Krone − once a medieval inn − were Emperor Karl V. and Friederich Schiller (memorial plaques at the market place).
