In the disused quarry there are 50 million year old animals and plants: birds with feathers, mammals with fur and bats complete with the folds of skin used for flying. In Messel, the evolution of animals can be seen which were beginning to develop after the all-powerful dinosaurs had become extinct. In the Messel Pit fish, amphibians, saurians, birds, and, above all, the Messel prehistoric tiny horse, can be seen. For those children who are old enough to read there are signs explaining the exhibits.
This tour is especially suitable for children. The exciting connections between biology (the science of nature and man), paleontology (science of the species of former times) and geology (science of the development and structure of the earth) are explained. You also carry out exciting experiments and you can even dig for fossils − i.e. petrified bones!
Invite your friends and visit the interesting Messel pit with them!
