Today this former pleasure palace of Sybille Augusta von Baden-Baden is famous for its ceramic and glass collections. They are witnesses of an extraordinary princely passion for collecting from the Baroque Era (here between 1680-1720). Approx. 1500 pieces can be seen: 600 fayences and 700 Asian and Europan pieces of porcelaine and approx. 500 glasses.
"The exhibition of these fragile treasures of the Favorite Palace hopes to make these unique exhibits attractive to visitors and increase the knowledge of this ensemble which is not available anywhere else." Böttger porcelain, Alabaster vases with coloured chinoiseries, fayences − a nearly inexhaustable repertoire of porcelain art objects.
Besides the palaces in Rastatt and Karlsruhe, the summer residence belongs to the most important buildings of the margravine dynasty of Baden. The owner of the building, margravine Sibylla Augusta von Baden-Baden, widow of the margrave Ludwig Wilhelm von Baden (known as Türkenlouis) 1675-1733 (born a princess of Sachsen-Lauenburg), as widow and mother of young children, created a representative refuge in a park in Rastatt-Kuppenheim.
The park has lost nothing of its overall appearance and naturalness as an artistic and cultural monument. With its paved paths it is also very suitable for elderly people and people who have restricted mobility. Waterfall, fish pond, landscape garden and pheasant wood, orangery and eremitage complete the picture.
During a visit, you can attend various guided tours and performances, exhibitions, serenade evenings, concerts, costume and dance performances − just call us in advance and we can make a reservation.
A former cavalier building is now a café and invites you to linger under shadowy trees.
