In the wonderful Jagst valley and its side valleys, surrounded by intact nature, we find the historical communities of Schöntal, Berlichingen, Oberkessbach and many others.
The pearl among them is the former Cistercian monastery Schöntal, founded in 1157 and put unter imperial protection by Emperor Barbarossa. In this part of the Jagst valley with its meadows, lakes, forests and gardens you will feel near paradise when you walk to the Kreuzberg and its round chapel, the Storchturm tower or the pilgrimage church Neusäß with its numerous wayside shrines.
The highlight, however, is the monastery itself − today an educational facility of the Rottenburg diocese.
"Christ, the saviour, reigns over the "Beautiful Valley" (Speciosa Vallis)" − 850 years of history invite us to make an unforgettable visit to the wonderful monastery. 25 stations of monastery history can be seen.
