Speyer and Technology Museum

Like Worms, Speyer also has a 2000 year old town history. The name "Spica/Speyer" was mentioned for the first time approx. 500 A.D. The town became very important as a traffic hub and a station for long distance traders. In the 8th century, Spica is given a Rocal Palace (Königspfalz).

An overview:

The imperial cathedral of Speyer is the biggest romanesque cathedral and nearly 1000 years old. Given its monumental exterior, impressive interior and the crypta, among the largest and most beautiful such structures, the cathedral of Speyer is the most important building of early Salian architecture and it set an example for the further development of the romanesque church architecture. As a result of its long history, the cathedral gained extraordinary importance with regard to religion, architecture and history. In 1981, the Unesco included it in its list of cultural and natural heritage sites.

The Ölberg mountain, the Heidetürmchen tower, the Domnapf, the Hohenfeld house, the Wittelsbach court, the historical Museum of the Palatine, the Alte Münze, the Altpörtel, the Gasthaus zum Halbmond restaurant, the Sonnenbrücke bridge, the St. Magdalene monastery, Retscher, Villa Ecarius and a lot more make this city a must!
