Weikersheim Palace with Garden

A highlight from the Renaissance era in the Hohenlohe region. Count Wolfgang II. transformed the former water palace to one of the most beautiful residences with sumptuously equipped rooms. The knights' hall, the audience chamber and countess Elisabeth Friederike Sophia's room lined with distorting mirrors are awaiting you.

Since the Hohenlohe-Weikersheim dynasty had already ended in 1756 and the palace afterwards no longer served as a permanent residence, the palace and its Baroque garden lay dormant until they were taken over by the state of Baden-Württemberg in 1967.

With its landscape which is nearly undisturbed by buildings, the palace with its wonderful gardens and sculptures − which the visitor is free to explore − still conveys the impression of a count's residence. It is a most extraordinary cultural monument.

A round-tour walking along the fountains and sculptures will lead us the orangerie with an opening in the main axis. It formed the "area triumphalis" for Count Carl Ludwig and was from an architectural point of view the end point of the garden, permitting an impression of the overall landscape.

This is a wonderful round tour, where 120 works of the Künzelsau artist family Sommer und Söhne can be seen: puttos, the four continents, four winds, elements, seasons, planets, fountain figures, wharf's galery, Attica figures... simply unforgettable!
