Worms

A round walk through Worms with its extraordinary cultural monuments and museums can best be characterized under the slogan: "walking through two thousand years of history". Take half a day and enjoy the flair of this city.

In Worms we will visit the Imperial Cathedral (with a guided tour). We will see the exterior of the cathedral and meet at the sculptural monument to Worm's most important bishop Burchard. This is the highest place in the city and reminds us of German history: Celtic and Roman findings are witnesses of very early settlements, Emperor's Palace (Kaiserpfalz) of Salian Dukes and Emperors, consecration of the cathedral, election of Bishop Bruno von Egisheim as Pope, the Concordate of Worms, the rebuilding of the cathedral, Bernhard von Clairvaux preaches in the cathedral (1146) and calls for the second crusade (one year later he will found the Maulbronn monastery together with other monks), Nibelungen saga with reference to Worms (around 1200) and Hagen, Brunhild and Kriemhild. 100 Imperial Diets were held here: of lasting significance was the Imperial Diet of 1521, when Luther had to justify before Emperor Karl V.
